Highlights from November 11, 2005 By John Veasey “This was donated anonymously by a member of the foundation,” said Elton Slusser, president of the East Fairmont High School Foundation. “We are very appreciative of it. I think it represents the feelings of East Fairmont in particular and all of the county in general toward our veterans.” Becky Philips, also a foundation member, said the square consists of flag poles, a marble slab with a bronze plaque that features the emblems of all four branches of service, and “a beautiful text message.” Friday’s program, scheduled for 11 a. m., is open to the public. Phillips said she hopes there will be a large turnout. The Veterans Day “ honor square” will be dedicated by members of the East Fairmont Foundation. “We scheduled our program at 11 a. m. so that it would not interfere with the Veterans Day parade and because our band, members of the ROTC and the veterans taking part will all participate in the parade,” Phillips said. The Veterans Day parade is scheduled for 1 p. m. The Busy Bee Band & Honeybees, directed by Earl McConnell, will take part in the special program and play the national anthem as well as a patriotic music selection. East’s Junior ROTC will handle the flag- raising and the Pledge of Allegiance. There will be a color guard from the Marion County Veterans Association. Principal Tom Dragich will dedicate the school’s new honor square and the Rev. “ Donal” Jack Squires will give some appropriate remarks and also deliver the benediction. *Click for Enlargement |
