The Busy Bee Band was joined by North Marion High School and Fairmont Senior High School for the Marion County Bands Showcase in the East Fairmont Gymnasium on Thursday, May 11th. Margaret Pantalone and Superintendent James Phares greeted the crowd and thanked the bands for coming to this annual event. North Marion, under the direction of Thomas Straight, performed first, playing "Dedicatory Overture" by Clifton Williams and "Fantasy on American Sailing Songs" by Clair Grundman. Fairmont Senior then played "Exaltation" by James Swearingen and "Tis A Gift" by Anne McGinty. Fairmont Senior is director by A. Shawn Dunn. East Fairmont, under the direction of Earl McConnell, then performed "A Festival Prelude" by Alfred Reed and then used the Fanfare Herald Trumpets in "Summon the Heroes" and "Olympic Spirit" by John Williams and arranged by Jay Bocook. The evening concluded with the groups combining to perform "Amazing Grace," arranged by James Ployhar, and "You Raise Me Up" by Brendan Graham and Rolf Lovland and arranged by Eric Osterling. The combined groups were directed by guest conductor, Dr. Harry Faulk. |
