EFHS Foundation Gift

Busy Bee Band Scholarship Announced at East Fairmont High School. Left to right: Mr. Elton Slusser, East Fairmont High School Foundation President, Mr. Butch Phillips, Special Gifts Chairman, Mr. Earl McConnell, Jr., Director "Busy Bee Band & Honeybees", Mrs. Millee McConnell, wife of Earl McConnell, Sr., Mr. Kevin Rogers, President R & E Electric, his wife Tina and son Jared.

The East Fairmont High School Foundation is pleased to announce a major gift that has been received to establish a named scholarship for a graduating Band student at E.F.H.S. This scholarship is presented in honor of the late Earl W. McConnell, Sr., former Director at East Fairmont High School - and founder of the present day "Busy Bee Band & Honeybees". Mr. McConnell served as the director from 1966 to 1989, and his wife, Millee McConnell served during that time period as choreographer for the "Honeybees".

Mr. Kevin Rogers, President of R&E Electric Corp., his wife Tina, and son Jared, presented the $10,000.00 gift to Mrs. Millee McConnell and Ear W. McConnell, Jr., with Mr. Elton Slusser and Mr. Butch Phillips, representing the E.F.H.S. Foundation, Inc., which will administer and invest the gifted funds. Mr. Slusser serves as the Foundation President and Mr. Phillips is the Special Gifts Chairman.

Mr. Rogers has established guidelines for the scholarship that recommend the recipient be a four-year member of the Busy Bee Band & Honeybees with a minimum 3.0 GPA. The student is expected to attend FSC or WVU, and it is preferred that the recipient pursue a degree in a Music or Fine Arts program.

Mr. Rogers attended EFHS from 1974 to 1978 and participated in the Busy Bee Band & Honeybees as a member of the Percussion Section.

THE EFHS Foundation has been in existence since 1993 and is a qualified 501(a)(1) tax exempt nonprofit organization. It typically awards 15 scholarships per year to deserving students, and now has two fully funded scholarships that are renewable each year the student maintains the criteria. Applications for scholarships may be obtained from the school Guidance Counselor's Office.
