Follies 2014

The 41st Annual production of the Busy Bee Band "Follies" closed out their four-day performance schedule of April 24th thru April 27th with over 2,800 enthralled ticketholders enjoying this long-running spring show. The choreography of the Honeybees along with fantastic show-tunes performed by the band kept each audience enthralled within the Broadway-style concert theater at East Fairmont High School for each of the four performances.

Since its inception in February 1970, this annual stage show (presumed the longest running high school show-style concert in West Virginia) has drawn thousands of parents, relatives, community supporters and band enthusiasts to auditoriums at both the old East Fairmont High School (1970 – 1992) and the new EFHS (1994 – 2014).

Each yearʼs production highlights current genres of Broadway musicals, motion picture blockbusters as well as music of the current pop culture. By combining the music with the dancing talents of the "Honeybees" as well as involving band students portraying leads in either theatrical or film scenes, enhances the entertainment value to a theatrical setting.

The first half of the show featured the Honeybees and their traditional "Rockette-inspired" kickline to "Come Fly With Me". Video highlights from the Beatles "Yellow Submarine" were featured during "Eleanor Rigby", "Let It Be" and "Hey, Jude" and clips celebrating the legacy of our 35th President John F. Kennedy were presented during "Ask Not." The Honeybees were featured in a recall of the 1920's Ziegfeld Follies as the band performed "Manhattan" and "Rock-A-Bye Your Baby on a Dixie Melody".

Highlights from the popular "Wizard of Oz" opened the second half as Dorothy and Toto met characters including the Glenda, the Good Witch of the East, the habitants of Munchkinland, Scare Crow, Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion on her trip back to Kansas. Highlights from "Mission Impossible," "Titanic," "Hunt for the Red October" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark" featured famous movie clips from the Hollywood Blockbusters. The Class of 2014 and the Busy Bee Band Percussion section were featured in "Proclamation," followed by a lighting spectacle as the Percussion performed Connecticut Halftime intertwined with a solo they created on their own.

Follies 2014 closed with highlights from the 2013 field show, with "Shout It Out Loud," "I Saw Her Standing There," "Who Loves You" and "Flashdance." A salute to America featuring a flyover of the United States was followed by Senior Salute to "Broadway Razzle-Dazzle" and the presentation of the Busy Bee Band Bouquet by Queen Bee Tawny Huffman.
