Band Plays at Dedication
Governor Offers Praise
East Fairmont's Busy Bee Band was the only band asked to perform at the dedication of Interstate 79 October 17, in which Governor Arch A. Moore was the main speaker.
East's band played preceding the ceremony with the Honeybees performing to the
music of "Raindrops," "Basin Street," "Soul Step," "Tailgate Ramble," "Lazy River," "Bicycle Built for Joy," "Jazz Waltz," "Solid Soul," and "The Grand Old Flag." Upon the arrival of Governor and Mrs. Moore, the band separated in the center to make a walkway playing "Hail, West Virginia."
Junior Brenda Ansele presented the governor with
mementos of East Fairmont. They were a copy of the YELLOW JACKET, a football program, and a copy of Bee Lines.
Master of ceremonies W.E. Shingleton, president of Henry Hardesty Incorporated, introduced the band, stating it was an honor to have them present.
In Governor Moore's address he said "Those representing East Fairmont, a
magnificent group of young people, have not only in their own way brought a great deal of
pride to themselves, but they have specifically to West Virginia through their participation in various contests and performances."
Following the ceremony, the Governor and Mrs. Moore posed with Queen Bee Corki Hostutler and band director Earl McConnell. |
