Tile the Tunnel Project 2007

John Veasey - Times-West Virginian: The Busy Bee Band Boosters have provided a major boost to the East-West Stadium turf project. Last Thursday they presented a check to Dr. James B. Phares, superintendent of Marion County Schools, in the amount of $12,000 to support the turf project. The presentation followed a three-week fundraising cam­paign by the Busy Bee Band & Honeybees to sell ceramic tiles for the main entrance Tunnel at East-West Stadium. Each tile depicts the official logo of the band along with the individual's name and graduating class year at a cost of $50.

However, to assist in reach­ing the campaign's goal of at least 200 tiles, the Busy Bee Band Boosters offered to pay half of the cost of each tile for any of the 180 current members of the band who wished to participate. This 50/50 option proved to be a “winning combination.” Additionally, over 50 alumni of the organization have also participated having either heard of the “Tile the Tunnel” Project or by seeing it listed on the Busy Bee Band's Web site: busybeeband.com. All told, 220 tiles have been sold to this point with additional tile orders being received even this week.

To date, this donation is the single, largest group contribution for the Tile the Tunnel project.
The “Tile the Tunnel” proj­ect has a long way to go. This gift is really appreciated and hopefully will spark other groups and organizations to do similar acts of generosity.

Current and past members of the Busy Bee Band & Honeybees can continue to purchase tiles through the Busy Bee Band Boosters by filling out the "Tile the Tunnel" Order Form. Others who wish to support the stadium project can visit eastweststadium.com and make donations.
